Ging,

I'm not sure that there are enough installations of the i890 to know if
there is a pattern of smoky and smelly installs.  As a general rule,
what you are describing is extremely unusual.

It is possible that the system delivered is not compatible with the
electricity you are connecting it to.  I would not blame that on the 890
if that is the case.
