Fred,

Thanks for the advice. Applied SF65895 and connection worked just fine.
I'm suppressed IBM didn't list it as a PTF pertaining to PPP.

I have seen this problem on V4R5 and there was no PTF available, when I
upgraded to V5R1 the problem went away. I think that this problem is
described in APAR SA89382 which relates to V4R4/V4R3 and is fixed in PTF
SF65895.

Subject: PPP DIAL-ON-DEMAND

Hello all,

I'm attempting to get a PPP dial-on-demand connection (using one-way CHAP
authentication initiated by the called party) to work with an AS/400
(calling party) at V4R4 using a 2720 V.24 port and the 7852-400 IBM modem.
All goes well through the LCP negotiation phase. Within the authentication
phase, the AS/400 receives a CHAP challenge and returns a CHAP response. It
then repeats the CHAP response. The called system for some reason issues a
new CHAP challenge, for which the AS/400 returns a number of CHAP responses
(as defined by the link's config). The AS/400 then gives up and issues a
termination. One clue may be the mysterious discard request issued by the
AS/400 in record 12. I've also tried using PAP, but it also times out and
also has the strange discard request to an ID no where else in the trap.
I've applied all PPP related PTFs per IBM's site. The com trap is always
the same. Any ideas? Below is part of the com trap:

It then repeats this response a few more times and finally issues a
terminate request, which is acknowledged by the called system.
