Sounds like a driver issue, did you go to the HP website and get the
latest driver for the printer when using XP?

Client Access, V4R5, Windows XP, and an HP 5550 printer

A client has had this working with a HP550C printer, but he's bought
the new
HP5550 printer and now he can print only one report. Then he has to
reboot
his PC and he can print another one. But only one report per boot of
the PC

I had a similar problem with an HP722c after installing XP at home.
Everything seemed to be working properly, right down to the documents
slowly disappearing as they were 'printed' but nothing ever came out of
the printer. HP website had no driver for XP. Called HP and they said
the only driver was included with XP. I continued to load service
packs, fixes, patches, etc from MS and all of a sudden it started working.
