Adam, Check to see when your ODBC driver is converting EBCDIC (iSeries database) to ASCII (VB comprehensible). Some ODBC drivers to this when first opening a file. If the file is large, the initial connection can take a very long time. -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Adam.Martin@shenlife.com Sent: Tuesday, September 24, 2002 5:38 AM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: ODBC Call Failed. Hello, We have a VB app connecting to our as400 all throughout the day. Our problem seems to be that whenever the CPU utilization gets high on the as400, all of the connections start to fail. As soon as the as400 settles down, everyone can connect again. The biggest part of the problem is that this "settling down" process can take up the 15 minutes, keeping our users out of commission. Has anybody had this problem or know how to tune the system to better handle this issue??? J.
