My only excuse is that I have used COBOL on more than a dozen different computer platforms, and the ANSI definition does not require the "root" or "main" program in the run-unit to be another COBOL program, it could be for instance an RPG program. I think that the AS/400's interpretation of this is slightly non-standard, but this is, of course, moot because we are discussing the AS/400's behavior. But, as I said, the above is just my (weak) excuse.
