Evan, I guess it depends on what you define as the first record. If you are talking about the data space used for relative record #1, I would agree that if your RAG program deleted that record there would be no record #1 until a reorg or write. But, if you mean by the first record to be the first active record a simple program that processes the file as update primary will have a 'first' record. Got to love that cycle! :) This would be akin to reading a data queue where each entry is deleted when read. And I thought that if you specify FROM(1) in a CPYF it preserved the deleted records and did not compress them out.
