And from my experience, battery failures on disk IOP on a 170 are quite common, and often go undetected by users (who don't have Service Director running, don't check WRKPRB or QSYSOPR msgs, and don't check WRKDSKSTS, F11 for the DEGRADED status). It also reports at problem at this point so that you know to call service. If your Disk units get abnormally busy and the system very slow then this is one possibly condition.
