When we bought our 270, I had to choose between the QIC drive and the
new 7208. We had an old 7208-002 on our old system, so I was leaning
towards the 8mm drive. However, when I did some research I found that
not many people had the 8mm drives, and those that did weren't all that
happy with them.

So, I opted for the cheaper solution, the QIC drive. And I'm really glad
I did! It's very fast, and has worked flawlessly for me. I have not had
any media go bad, and the drive has run beautifully.

So, that's just my opinion... but I'd recommend the QIC drive.
