[ Converted text/html to text/plain ] Art: Reverse-engineering anything is always has an element of risk. How do you know you've covered all the code paths? Development and testing. We all remember that IBM had MAJOR problems with disk units about this time last year. So did the other iSeries disk vendors. The facts demonstrate that catastrophe can occur even with IBM equipment. Just stating that because it's IBM it's better really holds no weight. We've seen that there's a major risk with using the IBM drives - how many of you had serious downtime or had to reload systems? Well, if I'm going to have a risk anyway I'll go with a company that actually uses and sells IBM disk units instead of going with IBM who outsourced their disks to Seagate. And I'll get faster drives cheaper. IBM has stated that for their eServers the 15k drives are "80% faster" overall than the 10k drives. It's a shame that they won't provide that the the iSeries community. iSeries customers are having to buy more drives now for performance and not for space. I've got my IBM 15k drives.
