I suppose I could have enhance the where clause to say where the value
from the second file is different from the first

Running low on time.  Been years since I played with Access.  I think I
get what you are saying.  But I don't see anything like that in iSeries
Navigator.  While it sure can draw some pretty pictures of your database
relations (you are using RI aren't you?) I think they leave the updating
to SQL scripts.  That way you have to know what you are doing - which is
probably a good thing.

Or as a simpler solution(s):
1) tiny RPG III program, testing to see if update is
                 necessary before update is performed to minimize io
2) 2 linked tables drag and drop in Access, let the jet engine
                 handle the link and update

Rob since you have the most recent version, have they considered
doing this type of update in the database navigator yet?
