Carol - I may be wrong, but I'm not sure that I would recommend using this
technique.

If the CPP for CHKOBJ has a published API by IBM that you can use for checking
object existence, then OK.  If not, I don't think that I would call it in any
programs, just like I am NOT going to write MI code in my applications, since
IBM reserves the right to change these interfaces from release to release

.  I don't want to have to change my code because I'm using an unpublished
interface.  Sometimes it it just easier to use the low-tech approach and call
a CL program to perform the CHKOBJ.
