Hello Peter,

My assumption was that the PC is using WinDOS rather than DOS or OS/2. If
WinDOS then it is likely one of the later variants (i.e., W95 or later)
which use the MS-Windows codepages.

CP1252 is MS-Windows Latin-1 which contains all (certainly most of) the
accented characters needed by the so-called Romance Languages of which
Canadian French is a member. CP1252 contains all the accented characters
found in CP863 albeit at different codepoints.

It is quite possible that the PC is using a different codepage but we need
to know a lot more information about Denis' environment before we can
explain the observed behaviour.

I know but most people seem to set that attribute since EBCDIC hex data is
fairly useless on an ASCII PC.

Regards,
Simon Coulter.
