Deb, IBM has not updated their online documentation for LPAR/V5R2 yet, but I doubt very much that you would be able to run V5R2 on a secondary partition with V4R5 in the primary. The web site on release support (see below) clearly states that with V4R5, a two-step jump in the secondary (P+2) is not supported. The only exception to this policy is running V5R1 in a secondary with V4R4 in the primary; this is clearly noted as an exception for these releases only. Regards, Andy Nolen-Parkhouse LPAR release support site: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/pubs/html/as400/v5r1/ic2924/info/rzajx/rza jxreleasesupport.htm Some text from that site: Systems with logical partitions have the capability to support more than one version of OS/400. The logical partition strategy is to support up to three different releases on the same system. Using the primary partition as the reference release (denoted as P), the strategy is to support secondary partitions of one previous release of OS/400 (P - 1), the same release as the primary (P), and a future release (P + 1). For example, if your primary partition is running V4R5, you can install V5R1 on a secondary partition. However, since your primary partition is running V4R5, you will not benefit from the V5R1 enhancements in the secondary partition running V5R1. You are limited to the release function of the primary partition. Likewise, if you install V5R1 on the primary partition, you can run V4R5 on one secondary partition while the other secondary partitions run V5R1. In this example, since the primary partition is running V5R1 all secondary partitions running V5R1 will have the increased functionality of the release. However, the secondary partition running V4R5 is limited to the release function established for V4R5. > On Behalf Of Debbie Helms > Subject: v4r5 lpar > > We would like to put v5r2 on our development partition...which happens to > be > the secondary partition. I can see where you can run v4r5 on the primary > and v5r1 on the secondary but what about v5r2 on the secondary? > > As always thanks for all the advice and support. > > Deb
