Well, Bad news, I dunno, it depends:

For those being layed off, it really sucks, no arguement!

But, let's look at it from IBM's perspective: They've just bought a BIG
services company, IBM has changed it's NYSE designate to "services", and
IBM's been charging super-premium rates for services for sooooo long that
people are finally realizing that not only is IBM over priced, but there's
alot of other folks that can do as good of a job and alot cheaper! And,
in alot of cases, I'm sure folks are just saying they can do without if it
means paying those high IBM rates....

Also, let's not forget that IBM's services folks are directly competing
with the new acquisitions services folks...so, what you're seeing could
also be partially reallignment of the resources...and from a management
theory/product recognition standpoint, when you think services you're less
apt to think IBM than you are PWC....! So, the potential re-alignment
would help the new IBM's bottom line...

Then, you could see what everyone, even Forbes now, is telling IBM...the
marketing sucks so bad that nobody has clue one what the hell IBM's
selling anymore...and they're not buying...

Go figure...
