I haven't used VB for AS/400 database updating, but I have no issues with
using OLE DB to interact and get data.

Seems a bit slow at times, but I am pretty sure it is not optimized for what
I am doing.  Also, I am just doing basic select queries on a single table.

Interacting with the AS/400 is basically the same as with any database that
uses OLE DB.
