Rick, The best reference for your question would be the Performance and Capabilities Reference for your particular release. Check the web page below for a PDF file. http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/perfmgmt/resource.htm I truly don't think that there is anything out there which measures CPW, other than the CPW benchmark itself. Your best bet might be to take the CPW rating and figure that as a percentage of processor utilization. If you had a machine with a processor CPW of 1000 and an interactive CPW of 200, then your machine would reach its interactive limit when the interactive jobs and their associated tasks reached 20% of processor. The remaining task would be to take performance data and segregate it according to whether or not it is flagged as interactive. I don't whether or not anyone has written such a utility. If all of your interactive work occurs in the same subsystem, it would not be too difficult, although there are complications as outlined in the manual above. Some non-interactive asynchronous tasks get charged back to interactive jobs, so your measurements will not be exact. For V5R1, check on page 26 for the "managing interactive capacity" section. Yes, both of the access methods you list are interactive. Regards, Andy Nolen-Parkhouse > On Behalf Of Rick Nardone > Subject: Interactive CPW > > Confused on what makes up Interactive CPW.
