Paul,
I would recommend a switchable IOP as a solution. The
IOP could handle either or both your tape and CD. This suggests only
one IOP as well.
If you had a 4partition system you might get 2 tapes/CDs & IOPs and
switch them into the partitions to meet our processing requirements (i.e
0 to 2 tape drives in a partition).
Tape drive like the 3590, for instance, have 2 cables to attach to the
system or partition. This is OK too but requires an IOP per partition.
So there are options versus cable swaps.
