Do the users/company like the current software? Is the corp willing to make an investment in software overhaul? There are cheap ways (with less flexibility down the road..) or more expensive ways that allow modern features & functions. Even if you barely migrate the code into rpg400, at least externalize the database to allow greater flexibility in both rpg & other tools. jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shields, Ken" <kenshields@ppg.com> To: "'Midrange Mailing LIst'" <Midrange-L@midrange.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 09, 2002 9:56 AM Subject: Systems replacement poll. > Hello everyone.. > Current operation has AS/36 machines in our branches, and we are investigating > some form of replacement for these boxes. > Each /36 runs a complete business system, and I was wondering whether it would be > more feasible to convert the existing RPG code to RPG/400, and hook the branches into an Internet connection with a larger box in Toronto, or research a pc solution for each branch? > Any and all suggestions would be helpful. > Regards > > > Ken Shields > Oshawa systems group > Works 81, Oshawa Ontario > (905) 725-1144 Ext 326 > > _______________________________________________ > This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list > To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, > visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l > or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com > Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives > at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l. > >
