Have you verified that the problems come from records not being returned
that you expect, that are excluded by the select/omit? I thought that a
select/omit logical would be used only if it's criteria exactly matched the
WHERE or HAVING clause of an SQL statement

I've said that when a select/omit logical is used as the FROM file - then
record selection is done in the logical. This is why you're encouraged to
use physical files as FROM files, not logicals.
