I was leaning to that but don't really have to mess with tape that much
anymore so wasn't positive !

I remember the days on the S/38 and that wonderful reel to reel unit (with
the vacuum hoses that would crack...) and watching it (would else could you
to ? <BG>) start starting and stopping, back and forth, etc. when it found a
bad spot. Assume this was doing the same but you couldn't see it. It WOULD
be nice if the AS/400 would report something like this as it was
happening...

Bad spot on the tape appears to be a real problem....

Temp errors are those that the system can "get around"
while Perm "can not get around".. Auto error recovery
on tape can produce some pretty interesting stats...

Dasd can/does suffer the same fate...
