I have a client that is having some SMTP issues. Here is what I know.
V5R1 machine (820). Have all the latest PTFs for SMTP including
SI03018. It appears their back up is taking a long time (at lease
reported longer than it used to). In looking thru their history log in
between the SAVED xxxx object from LIB yyyy, there are lots and lots of
messages related to STMP Client and Server jobs starting and stopping.
(Like every 5-10 minutes). My AS400 does not do this and neither does
another box they have on site. After changing the JOBBD QTMSMPTS to
create a job log for these jobs, I came to find out this is/was
happening all day long, not just at night during the backup.
The job logs indicate that these are Prestart jobs and they are
cancelled by the SBS because of inactivity, only to be started up again
a few minutes later. I also came to find out that this client is
running ALL their SMTP mail thru their AS400. (not sure if this is a
great idea, but we are looking into this.)

Anyone have any idea what is going on here..... Is this normal, all this
stopping and starting of prestart jobs?
TIA,
cjg
