IBM lays off staff in computer plants, operations NEW YORK, May 24 (Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) said on Friday it has laid off an unspecified number of employees at plants where it makes large computers. SNIP He said the cuts included 225 server jobs in Endicott; 144 jobs in Poughkeepsie, New York; 150 jobs in Rochester, Minnesota; and 250 jobs in Beaverton, Oregon. He said 250 jobs were cut from various divisions at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, where large computers are also made. SNIP Sources familiar with the situation have said IBM plans to cut 7,950 to 9,540 jobs, or 2.5 percent to 3 percent of its work force. IBM has declined to comment on the broad cuts, but its new chief executive, Sam Palmisano, hinted of such reductions during a recent meeting with analysts.
