Hopefully, this post will answer some of the questions that have been asked about PDF books in the Info Center. One of the questions was about links that work on the Internet site but not when the PDF is downloaded and opened locally. This problem is caused by the use of relative links within the PDF books; the links are not fully qualified urls so they do not always work when the book is moved. For the links to work correctly, all linked-to books and topics need to be in the same root directory structure. Why did we do this? We also provide the Info Center and the PDFs on CD-ROM and provide install wizards so that you can create your own Info Center on an iSeries, LAN drive, or PC. Since you can choose the root directory structure for these installs, we had to stay with relative links or none of the links would work. I don't know of a work around except maintaining two sets of books (that is not an accounting statement) one for the Internet and one for the CDs. The problem would still occur if someone moved a book (from the CD version) to another directory. A second question was on the links to the syntax diagrams not working in the CL Reference PDFs (on the INternet or locally). Actually, these are working as designed (by necessity). The tools used to create the CL API PDF volumes did not provide support for creating the links correctly. FYI - this is stated in the introductory paragraph to the CL PDF volumes at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/html/as400/v5r1/ic2924/info/rbam6/rbam6printingme.htm FYI - to see a list of all topics available for printing (in PDF) in the Info Center, go to http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/html/as400/v5r1/ic2924/info/rzahgicprinttoc.htm For a list of PDF manuals available for printing, go to the Supplemental Manuals site: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/html/as400/v5r1/ic2924/rzaqhindex.htm Hope this helps.
