John, I am sure you know this, but on later releases you can change the effective group or profile. There are also APIs that allow you to use a token for the swap. I found these were much lighter weight than the profile swap APIs. You mention land mines -- I have hit a few with this sort of code. Some IBM programs, FTP and debug are examples, may not always recognize your new found authority. What is the limit on swaps, I guess we have been lucky? Better yet, can you point to a manual where it is documented? As I recall a profile token can be limited, but you can set the limit pretty high.
