This has been an area of tremendous frustration for me. AFAIK, the only means iSeries has of working with a remote database is RDB, which uses DRDA. This requires an ARD, an application requester device, as it's called. IBM has told me that the vendor needs to provide this. That's like a database vendor supplying an ODBC driver, I suppose. But there seems no effort on IBM's part to abet this. It will talk to any DB2/UDB database, AFAIK. SQL Serve, not to my knowledge. The other post mentioned writing something that'd send requests to the other DB server. I assume sockets would (could?) be involved. I don't know enought nor have the time. Could someone in the open projects look at this? It'd be fantastic, IMO.
