iseris/AS400 in NT and Unix environments

For several reasons I'm trying to determine what problems I would encounter
if I add an AS400 to an NT or Unix network environment.

An application on the AS400 needs to extract data from one or more
databases on other servers and build a specialized file set on the AS400.
 There is no requirement to update the other servers.  The AS400 must be
accessible by users on the LAN.

Assume the users all are equipped with pcs.

Can it be done?
What challenges do I face?
In your experience what are the solutions to these challenges?
