There ARE utilities (that's what IBM calls these commands, in the QSHELL docs) here that do things we've never been able to do easily on AS/400. One is the 'sed' command, which lets you do extensive replacement, in place, of sections of text in files.This could be a fantastic maintenance/fixup tool. SQL can do it, but it's cumbersome. We can get around the external file limitation by creating a PF with RCDLEN, then CPYF *NOCHK back and forth. But I consider this a bug, and am going to report it. I mean, source PFs have fields, just like any externally described file, after all.
