Mark Allen wondered: >Buck, what about Siemens switches. >The outside project engineer did >mention BX.25 but gave me the >"impression" that they had connected >to 400's before??? I haven't had to poll a Siemens switch myself but I believe we've done it in the past with an HDLC connexion back when they were still Stromberg. As for BX.25, the engineer has it backwards. We spent months trying to get the 400 to talk to the switch, including getting the network guys with test gear etc. in the mix. They never connected. BX.25 is missing some of the OSI protocol layers. We then spent an incredible amount of time and money to develop a BX.25 poller for a cellular switch. It involved a PC and an ARTIC card as well as some intricate C programming. The customer decided that tape was better than the solution we presented, so we scrapped it wholesale. I heartily recommend paying somebody else to do this if at all possible. BX.25 = Bad News. --buck
