Chris, See my other post in Disk Drives for more, but we're looking at about 800 clients. I know that the CALs are giving them problems now - it appears that for software the quotes will be close. I'm looking at the license renewal for iNotes as well because that will definitely play in the TCO. The CALs sound horrible if we ever decided to upgrade the OS. For starters we will be just e-mail. The TeamRooms are great and I believe we would definitely utilize that group collaboration. We're looking at Workflow as well to integrate with OnDemand on our production machine (we may go with Content Manager, but Domino Workflow would also be viable). I've even configured a Linux box with Sendmail and POP3 - how much cheaper could we get with just hardware costs? Apparently they don't want to go with Linux because of support, but RedHat offers support. Thanks again, Chris Whisonant -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Chris Bipes Sent: Wednesday, March 27, 2002 11:28 AM To: 'midrange-lmidrangecom' Subject: Mail Server Options (was:Disk Drives) How many people do you need to support? When you exceed 200 clients, Domino starts to take the lead on total cost up front. Exchange CAL's will eat you budget quickly. What type of work load are you talking about? E-mail only? If so, there are many other alterative such as the native POP3 and SMTP of OS400. If you are going to develop application then Domino is it. If you need just Group Collaboration, you have several choices. OS400/Domino, 2K/Exchange, and several under Linux. Christopher K.
