In that sense, no, a display file cannot be opened in batch because it ceases to be batch at that instant... more or less. However, a job submitted to the QBATCH *jobq and processed within the QBATCH subsystem can indeed open a display file and write display records and read display records. No problem as long as a display device has been acquired for the display file. The acquiring happens essentially automatically in an 'interactive' job as we normally think of them. In the 'batch' jobs, the acquiring would often be done via OVRDSPF DEV(xxxx).
