It still sounds like invalid data.  If you DSPPFM the file or run Query over
it what do you see?  If you can't get at it with DSPPFM, try CPYF xxx *PRINT
OUTFMT(*HEX)  If all that works, try another display and see if it's
something peculiar with that display device.
