Basically a data synchronisation program recently started falling over.
The software house claimed that it was caused by an address file being
changed from when they took a copy of it to write the program to when the
program was installed. To fix it, would require the program to be
re-written, at the usual cost.
If, however, I could recreate the input file to the original spec, the
program should work.
All this is irrelevant as I've found out that the program uses files
exclusively belonging to the software house's product - if a file spec has
changed THEY changed it!

I don't suppose they access the files with SQL do they? And if they do
what I do and use PREPARED statements from variables, it may be a little
tough to find in a DSPPGMREF and DMPOBJ.

Sounds like you have the information you wanted. I am curious as to what
problem you were trying to solve though.
1) Did you have a file that was deleted and you don't have a backup to
recreate it?
2) Do you have a file and you wanted to add/change a field and don't have
DDS?
3) Were you trying to see how a particular program updated which fields?
...

Interesting, a DMPOBJ and a DSPPGMREF (thanks to all who suggested the
above) show that the program in question DOESN'T use any bespoke files.
If you need me, I'll be on the phone to my solicitor and software
house....
