I've used Client Access, Personal Communications (CA is derived from it), Rumba, and have tried a few web-based and java-based things, like mochasoft. I like CA for corporate use. It has the diaplay emulation, as well as printer emulation (you can print ont he 400 to a printer attached to your PC). It also has virtual printers, which means you can print something on YOUR machine to a 400 printer. CA may already be a part of you AS/400, so you have it. Might need to check on licensing, however. $250-300 per user. I got PCOMM ver 5 for about $150 from a place in Texas, freeshipping.com or some such. I use PCOMM myself - had to buy a copy for some work I do from home. It is almost the same as CA. Downloading and installing CA did not work out. I connect over the Internet - I know, low security, but it's not my job to set that up here. The main reason I went with PCOMM (same with CA) is the macro facility. The latest version uses VBA, as well as an older proprietary script. I find it much stronger than Rumba's macro facility. Synapse has a good reputation. Supposedly their people wrote some of the early Client Access stuff (Jerome?) Another company is Hummingbird. As aomeone else said, free and cheaper TN5250 products don't usually have the nice printing. If they do, it's usually LPD, and I like the CA/PCOMM/Rumba/etc. printer sessions better-all 400 printer attributes are retained, where LPD can't do that.
