Sorry for missing the previous part of the thread.

There must be something that can be done to fix this.  I jsut don't know
now.
You should not have to IPL the system jsut to get the console back, as a
matter of fact
you seldom have to IPL to "clear up" problems.

Now that it works maybe you can dive into the "virtual control panel"

V5R1 Operations Console users may wish to consider Virtual Control Panel
to get Remote Control Panel functions without the need for a direct
parallel cable connection.

I did an IPL and the console came up.
Lesson that I learned:
If you remove the console cable and plug it back in
you must IPL. This is terrible.
