api or file with s36 device name

i need an api or file to get the s36 device name for a native device name.
currently doing dsps36 cmd to *print, cvt to database, then read, but
performance is very bad. Working on a system half 36, half native.
Too much auto config to maintain a file. Need real-time access.
Any ideas?
