Welcome to the world of non-integrated systems. If you didn't have all that AS/400 experience cluttering up your brain you'd be a lot happier. For our Unix admins it's a given that we have to find the appropriate layered product for system and database backups (hell, you have to decide which *file system* software you want). On NT there's some gray area because the "OS" provides a partial solution that may seem like a full solution. When we install an NT server there's a list of layered software, including a backup agent, that has to be ordered, installed, configured to complete the operating environment. I have a tough time getting over it, but I always thought that was what the operating system was for. -Jim -----Original Message----- From: Don [mailto:dr2@cssas400.com] Sent: Monday, March 04, 2002 10:01 AM To: 'midrange-l@midrange.com' Subject: Re: Veritas AS400 agent Well, the only reason you would need Veritas is because MICROSOFT'S BACKUP SUCKS. MS does a very poor job a backup to the point that we've yet to find anyone that's been able to do a full complete restoreable backup from MS 2000 Pro or server.... Even local MS'ers use Veritas...geee...:) AS/400 doesn't have that problem....I can restore a full system or any part from a full system state backup equivalent... Just my humble opinion...:)
