This may sound silly, but the SMTP protocol is NOT hard to understand. Depending on the level of sophistication you need the simplest thing to do may be write an RPG socket program that sends to port 25 on the remote system. -Walden ------------ Walden H Leverich III President Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 (208) 692-3308 eFax WaldenL@TechSoftInc.com http://www.TechSoftInc.com -----Original Message----- From: Mark A. As for JAVA based mail, if you can find it free or cheap, and don't have to know java to use it, could be a very good thing. I have not researched that avenue, but I just might have to. Thanks for the info. -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of David Morris Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2002 11:27 AM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: RE: Sending e-mails from AS/400 Mark, Most of the email support on the AS/400 is "old" and retains too much office baggage. The SNDDST command along with the QTMM APIs, all use the AnyMail Mail Server Framework APIs under the covers. That support was OK five years ago, but it has not been enhanced in a long time and overly complicates the process. More modern alternatives include Java based mail support or Domino. At this point, I would steer way from the APIs if my intent is to find something more flexible. David Morris >>> mmanske@minter-weisman.com 02/26/02 10:05AM >>> Depends on the rest of your set-up; to start with, this is an "old" way, API's are better and more flexible... mark _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
