     OBJ('/usr/*')  +
     ENDOPT(*UNLOAD) UPDHST(*YES) subtree(*all)

Unless all your directories have a "." in them, the save will not save them.
I single star works great.  Also never rely on defaults, some one will come
behind you and change it.

As part of our weekly backups, we want to backup one directory in the
IFS and all of the subdirectories below it.

For whatever reason, the SAV command that I wrote is only saving the
contents
of the top directory.  Here's my command:

         SAV        DEV('/qsys.lib/tapebcc.devd') +
                      OBJ('/usr/*.*')  +
                      ENDOPT(*UNLOAD) UPDHST(*YES)
