It's more complicated than that.

Your AS/400 will almost certainly have at least 2 different IP addresses,
and can potentially have many more.  Each interface -- whether it is a
network card, or a PPP/SLIP interface, or a loopback interface -- will have
it's own IP address.

And some interfaces can be configured with multiple IP addresses.

When you make a connection to a host, the system decides which interface
to use based on your IP's, netmasks & routing tables.  At this point it's
possible to determine which IP address you're using.  But before that
point, it's not so easy!

Maybe if you could explain exactly what you're planning to use this for I
could give you some better suggestions...
