Agreed on most points except #3. Trade mags make almost nothing from RPG and COBOL programmers. They make 99% of their money from advertising. Subscription is only a small part of their income. Just look at the content. How many RPG/COBOL code snippets or utilities do you see now compared to a couple years ago? Almost nada (except iSeries Experts Journal, of which I am biased by also loyal because of the fact they're doing it old school).
