Thanks for the reply and the suggestion.... unfortunately, this did not
solve my problem.  Not for my 3.7 model 400, or my 4.2 model 600.

This may not fix your problem but I would give it a shot, it has helped me a
few times.

Password encription changed on the as/400 several releases ago.  Users could
still signon a terminal with no problems.  If you tried to start any CA/400
app using the old userid/password it would fail with a validation error.

Fixing the problem is easy.  Change the password on the as/400 (you can even
change it back again, it just has to be changed at least one time).

I would think that trying to connect to an older system could cause the same
problem.
