Password encription changed on the as/400 several releases ago. Users could still signon a terminal with no problems. If you tried to start any CA/400 app using the old userid/password it would fail with a validation error. Fixing the problem is easy. Change the password on the as/400 (you can even change it back again, it just has to be changed at least one time). I would think that trying to connect to an older system could cause the same problem.
