If your IFS dir contains files or directories, try using the EDTF command.
Option 9 is for recursive delete.

RMVDIR DIR('/a')  RMVLNK(*YES)

However I've yet to find a file system in which the RMVLNK(*YES) doesn't
generate CPFA0AC-"Request cannot be completed.  Directory contains
objects."  Which basically makes this a worthless keyword.
