Dumb Question

I still process some files via RPG READ loop after *LOVAL SETLL

I want to access a file by descending key & would you believe I have never
done that before via READ* variants?
I have got a logical of the records in descending sequence & I am not sure if
my logic would be same pattern
ie. *LOVAL SETLL file then READ loop ("forwards" through the records)
or if I should *HIVAL SETHH at begeinning because I'm going to be reading
backwards.

Reason for this is I want to flag the oldest entries for deletion & I thought
I would start at the beginning of the point I want to keep.
