RE: GUMBO questions

Only other option is if you have Client Access and use the operations
navigator.
Unless you want to Upgrade to Win2K or Win NT. Haven't tested it on Windows
ME or XP yet.

If you go 2K or NT it will ask you for the username/password for your AS/400
Whereas if you only have 95 or 98 it just provides you an option for the
username.

I guess either Mircosoft and/or IBM decided not to worry about this
scenario.
Seems kind of a shame....I imagine there are MANY people in the same
situation
You are.

I would love to be proven wrong and hear from someone that either Microsoft
has a patch for this.
Or IBM has a PTF for this...but I won't hold my breath.

I am stuck.

I have successfully converted a 400 spooled file to .pdf  using Gumbo
spool-a-matic and can see it in the IFS.  I set up a file share for it but
cannot not map a drive to it because my network ID and 400 ID are not the
same.

I am running Windows 98 (like most users here) and I have read in the
archives that I just will not be able to map drive to the IFS using Windows
98 if my network and AS/400 user ID's differ.

Any suggestions?

I use Gumbo spool a matic to allow web users to get afpds print files
from our web site. I use the IFS (and why would you need OPS NAV?)
My users use a browser (IE 5.x) and Adobe Acrobat Reader to view in
.pdf . Have also tested other formats, but pdf was most consistent in
keeping spool file layout.

note: have users fix Adobe options so that always opens in a new window.
Adobe versions & Microsoft IE versions not in synch and many halts if
default option to display pdf in same window as browser). Other big
problem was downloading new Adobe with old Adobe on pc-uninstall
old version first.

If not IFS, set up a share, or ftp the files. Have generated thousands of
afp & scs reports with no errors. Have a cleanup routine to clean the ifs
directory of old files.

Have not used the V5R1 options - do you have to purchase Print Server
for afp to pdf?
