jt I'd scope out the competition on the translation server. One of the main ones would be IBM. IIRC it's tied into Websphere as an add-on, but they could probably unbundle it as a standalone without too much trouble, and may already offer it... (Don't want to rain on the parade, but they got a head-start on ya...) jt | -----Original Message----- | From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com | [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Brad Jensen | Sent: Thursday, December 06, 2001 11:24 PM | To: midrange-l@midrange.com | Subject: translation server | | | If we could make a translation server (running on a PC with one of | the mechanical translation programs) and serve it up to the AS/400 | thru TCP/IP and a callable object (or on a web server as an ASP | object) would this be of any use to anybody? I think it handles | English to and from Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, and | German. We might also be able to do Russian. | | I'm in love with the idea, but I don't know if it is of any | practical use to anyone. | | Or how about a USA phonebook server, same functionality. We use | this sort of thing to look up phone numbers of incoming calls on | caller id and create default fields for data entry. | | Brad Jensen | | _______________________________________________ | This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) | mailing list | To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com | To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, | visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l | or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com | Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives | at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l. |
