Jan, You may want to change the query for deleted records slightly. Including the record length will give you not those that have the greatest % of deleted records, but those that waste the most space. Given a file w/a record length of 10 bytes, 10 million records and 8M of them deleted (80%) a reorg will only get you back 80Meg. But given a file with a record length of 1000 bytes, 10 million records and 2M of them deleted (20%) a reorg will get you back 2 Gig. Which would you rather reorg? -Walden ------------ Walden H Leverich III President Tech Software (516)627-3800 x11 WaldenL@TechSoftInc.com http://www.TechSoftInc.com -----Original Message----- From: Jan Megannon [mailto:jmegannon@intekom.co.za] Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 5:45 PM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: Re: FWD: AS400 "Object Xref" File? Thanks! > Hi, One of my mates wrote an application that does the following: 1.) Submit a task (or scheduled) to collect information 2.) List library, with content and relationship between all objects in lib (PF, LF and PGM). 3.) List/sort objects by name/size. 4.) Output is on-screen when I last saw. Can also be sent to a PF. 5.) Trying to get him to list objects with > selected % of deleted records to a file. Can then use this same utility for RGZPFM. When I last checked, it was available for a couple of Rand (R5000-00). Divide by ten to convert to $. If anyone is interested, please let me know. BTW, there are repositories of shareware/freeware/ open source all over the net (pertaining to AS/400 & iSeries). Is there any one site that carries links to all these? If not, do you (the community) percieve any value in such a list? I am thinking along these lines. The more of these we can place in the hands of the AS/400 newbies, the better. There is a wealth of code all over the net and this can add value to the 400/iSeries. Cheers. Jan Megannon I have yet to meet a person that has moved from another platform to the AS/400 (with an open mind and a bit of a brain), that has not become a convert. > > I think that instead of having a file like QADBXREF, > > IBM should have a ONE-VERTEBRA-COLUMN FILE with all the basic > > OBJECTS information on the AS400 and this should include the > > pertinent and basic information, depending on the object type. > _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
