IBM used to have some software to do this. It ran on your 400 and went out and checked out all PC's in your organization, and based on a table on your 400, could tell you what software they had loaded. Table had entries in it like this.exe with a date of xx/xx/xx must be YYYYYYYYY version #.##. After spending a bundle on it and a HUGE bundle on IBM consulting (can you say 1/3 of a million over budget?) they dropped the product. Now the latest is Tivoli. Supposed to have something to do this and many other features like remote control, automated software distribution, etc. We're using this but not for half of it's features. Personally I only use it for remote control. I hear that we might move to software from Computer Associates. I've heard of someone who wrote their own. Goes out to every PC in their organization and analyses their Registry. Isn't there some sort of M$ product for this also? I forget what it is called. Hey, what's more fun than the M$ audit we're having now?
