ILE/C problem -- MIDRANGE-L

I am using the "system" function to execute a CL command from a C program.
This works fine.  The problem is when the command fails I get no message in
the joblog.  I know I can monitor the results using a return variable but
what I need is for the message to appear in the joblog.  What am I doing
wrong?
