We provide AS/400 services to a large company. This is the only area that we provide service in, they take care of other areas (e.g. their network) in-house, so I do not know how they have their network configured. On November 3 we replaced their old B70 running token-ring with a new 270 using an Ethernet card and running OS/400 V4R5. Everything seemed fine. However, the next Monday at about 3:00 p.m. everyone in one area started having horrible response and then dropping. This cleared up after about 1.5 hours. Again, things seem to run fine, until Thursday & Friday, November 15 & 16, when they started to have the same intermittent problems. Here is the interesting part: the PC's having problems with communications are using token-ring. A PC on an Ethernet network does not experience the problems. When we reset TCP/IP it seems to help a little bit sometimes and doesn't have any affect other times. This makes me think that the problem is with the bridging between the token-ring and Ethernet networks. But the network guys can't find anything wrong with the network (althought they do see errors) and are pointing at the AS/400. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
