I've seen users where a pet rock wouldn't work... LOL...! Seriously, I think there's a slim possibility that the industry will swing "back to the future". The industry moves to the point which is a balance between the direction the market THINKS it wants to go and the direction the prevailing companies THINK they want to go. Both of these groups currently have the POV they THINK they want to drop character-based apps. That's what we're talking about, losing character-based apps. The particular implementation doesn't matter that much (5250, Unix, zSeries terminal, and C/S version of character-based apps, all basically being similar). I looked at PC Magazine, first time in months, and saw an op-ed by John Dvorak (I thin'). It was titled "Fix your software Microsoft". He was very vehement in advocating that NO browser should EVER write to the hard drive. I thought it extraordinary that a piece in PC Magazine would advocate going "back to the future" and using a PC as, what is essentially, a Network Station. Wonder why that concept never really gathered steam...?!? jt > -----Original Message----- > From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com > [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Westdorp, Tom > Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2001 5:27 PM > To: midrange-l@midrange.com > Subject: RE: Future of 5250 and other interesting topics. > > > This message is in MIME format.
